Operational Units Dependent Children Scholarship

Scholarship Guidelines

This scholarship will provide financial assistance to a Dependent Child of an Employee within Operations and select collaborative units, including Risk, Ethics and Compliance and Human Resources and Organizational Effectiveness.

For purposes of this scholarship:

• “Dependent Child” means a natural, adopted or stepchild or a child under a legal guardianship; and
• “Employee within Operations and select collaborative units” means a full-time employee budgeted at least 50% in a division/unit within Operations, Risk, Ethics and Compliance, and Human Resources and Organizational Effectiveness for at least two years prior to the start date of the award period (beginning on July 1).

The scholarship will be awarded based on academic achievement; school, employment, and community activities; and financial need.

Eligibility

To be eligible, an applicant must be:

1. A Dependent Child of an Employee within the Operations (including Emergency Management, Environmental Health and Safety, Facilities and Energy Services, Technology Services, Transportation Services, University Center and Special Events, University Police Department and administrative personnel in Operations) and select collaborative units (including Human Resources and Organizational Effectiveness and Risk, Ethics and Compliance);
2. Admitted into and enrolled in at least twelve (12) hours at Texas A&M University, including main campus and off-campus teaching sites (eg., McAllen, Dallas, Round Rock, Engineering Academies, etc.) or any other academic institution within The Texas A&M University System; and
3. Classified as an undergraduate student.

Application

Application packet must include the following:

1. Completed application form;
2. Personal statement;
3. Activity profile, including evidence of academic achievement and school, employment and community activities;
4. Financial profile;
5. Two letters of reference; and
6. Current transcripts for each institution currently enrolled. First-semester freshmen should attach their high school transcript. Unofficial transcripts are permitted. Incomplete application packets will not be considered.

Applicants must have a complete and current Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Application.

Additional Guidelines

• Scholarship funds can be used for educational expenses such as tuition, fees, room, board, books, supplies and other related expenses.
• Texas A&M - Blinn Team and School of Nursing ASCEND program dual enrollment are permitted and count toward the minimum required credit hours.
• The Scholarship Selection Advisory Committee is comprised of employees from Operations. Committee members may not be the parent or legal guardian of an applicant for the scholarship.

Awarding

• Scholarships will be for one academic year and will provide $2,000 per semester.
• To receive funds for the spring term, scholarship recipients must:
  • Maintain a fall course grade point average of 2.0 or better;
  • Successfully complete a minimum of twelve (12) credit hours in the prior fall term; and
  • Be enrolled in at least twelve (12) credit hours for the spring term.
• Scholarship recipients may re-apply in subsequent years, for a maximum total of four years, as long as he/she maintains satisfactory academic progress (2.5 overall G.P.A.) or above.
• If the scholarship recipient transfers to an institution of higher education outside The Texas A&M University System, the remainder of the scholarship is not transferable.
